Can you guess which frosted cupcake is the work of my four year old daughter? Hint: not the green one.
Something came over me. Perhaps I needed a sugary fix. Perhaps it is Friday, my favourite day of the week. Perhaps it’s been 10 days since I last baked a sweet treat, which, as my husband will vouch, is about as long as it gets before I feel the need to bake again. Perhaps I feel like being a nice mommy (for once). In any case, I felt the time is ripe for me to whip up a batch of cupcakes.
The recipe for these cupcakes come from The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook, a book filled with beautifully styled and photographed treats that make you want to bake them just so you can stare at these beauties right in your own kitchen and feel an incredible sense of self-accomplishment, “I made them, I did!“, nevermind the pile of dirty bowls and spoons in the kitchen sink.
I divided a batch of vanilla frosting into three and coloured them with cheer-inducing pastels (green, yellow and pink), and let my daughter go to town on them. Look at how she butchered the fragile cupcakes while frosting them.
But it was a fun afternoon. It’s not everyday that my daughter gets to frost cupcakes as an after school activity. Man, I really do feel like I am a nice mommy.
